"Ukrainian language needs support, so the new language law must be passed as soon as possible. Many Ukrainians already understand that the Ukrainian language has become a major factor in the national security of Ukraine", said Viacheslav Kyrylenko, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, before the start of the All-Ukrainian radio dictation of national unity.
According to him, the new law will regulate the use of the Ukrainian language in the services sector, printed mass media, TV and radio environment, and so on. There will be transition periods, so changes will be gradual, as also the introducing Ukrainian music quotas on the radio. Viacheslav Kyrylenko reminded that recently the third stage of the introducting the quotas on radio had come into force. From now on, the minimum proportion of songs in the Ukrainian language during 24 hours, including in prime time, should make up at least 35 percent. But in general, according to Viacheslav Kyrylenko, quotas are overfulfilled, and this confirms that the Ukrainian song is in great demand among the audience.
Viacheslav Kyrylenko traditionally took part in the writing of the All-Ukrainian dictation of national unity on the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language. The top official was writing the dictation together with students, schoolchildren, and teachers at the premises of the Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University. The Vice Prime Minister stressed that such actions are of paramount importance in modern Ukraine, since they unite millions of Ukrainian people around Ukrainian national values.
It should be noted that in March 2018, the government interagency working group chaired by Viacheslav Kyrylenko had supported the bill "On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as an official language", which was approved by the Verkhovna Rada in the first reading.
