As of Tuesday, March 10, there was confirmed only one case of coronavirus in Ukraine. Deputy Health Minister Viktor Liashko emphasized during a briefing at the Government House.

"This case was recorded in Chernivtsi region. The man remains isolated in an infectious diseases hospital. His condition is stable, the patient receives symptomatic treatment. He will remain in isolation until it is confirmed by laboratory tests that the virus is no longer released into the outside environment and man isn’t contagious to others. That is when the person will be completely healthy," Viktor Liashko emphasized.

The Deputy Minister of Health also said that 20 samples taken from people suspected of having coronavirus infection had been examined in recent days. All samples are negative, those people do not have coronavirus infection.

Currently, there are 4 more samples being analyzed in the Virological Laboratory. The results will be announced shortly.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the world, the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine has received 40 reports about suspected cases of this acute respiratory disease. 36 samples have already been analyzed, 35 out of this number being negative and 1 laboratory-confirmed case.

"In accordance with WHO recommendations, the positive sample was sent to a laboratory in London for verification. This morning we have received results that fully confirm the results of our laboratory. This demonstrates the high qualification of Ukrainian specialists. That is why we are confidently reporting that all the procedures conducted in our laboratory meet European standards," the Deputy Minister emphasized.

Viktor Liashko stressed that the response protocol according to which the current healthcare system is operating was devised to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection and provide all necessary assistance.

The Deputy Minister noted that the Central Reference Laboratory of the Public Health Center is now coping with the number of samples to be analyzed.
