  • Government improves social protection of defenders released from captivity

    At its session on November 15, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution that improves the procedure for social and legal protection of defenders released from russian captivity and the families of the kremlin prisoners.

    The resolution was drafted by the Ministry for Reintegration of Temporary Occupied Territories in pursuance of the Law "On Social and Legal Protection of Persons in respect of whom is established the fact of deprivation of personal liberty as a result of armed aggression against Ukraine and members of their families".

    In particular, the Resolution approves the following:

    - Regulations on the Commission on establishing the fact of deprivation of personal liberty as a result of armed aggression against Ukraine; this commission will work under the Ministry for Reintegration of Temporary Occupied Territories; it will also make decisions on compensation from the state budget for the costs of legal assistance to illegally imprisoned citizens of Ukraine.

    - The procedure for assignment and payment of assistance to such persons and members of their families.

    - The procedure for maintaining the Register of such persons. The Register will be administered by the National Information Bureau (NIB) under the Ministry for Reintegration of Temporary Occupied Territories.

    Persons deprived of their liberty as a result of the aggression of the russian federation will be able to receive UAH 100 thousand annually during their stay in captivity and UAH 100 thousand once upon release. In addition, in case of death of such a person, a one-time financial support of UAH 100 thousand from the state is provided for his/her family.
