Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company introduces new technologies. A contract was signed between PJSC Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company and National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" for research and industrial testing of equipment and technology of welding of complex component parts of vessels by use of ultrasonic impact treatment (UIT). It also provides for joint industrial testing and research of other new technologies and equipment, training of engineering personnel. The use of UIT technology allows suppressing fatigue cracks of welded structures of ships. This technology has been successfully used by world-renowned shipbuilding companies: Hyundai Heavy Industries, Samsung Heavy Industries and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.

Introduction of ultrasonic impact treatment in the engineering of metal surfaces will allow increasing durability of working details and knots from structural light alloys, to restore the damaged surfaces. This will increase the life of the equipment in shipbuilding and repair activities. The cost-effectiveness of technology implementation will far outweigh the costs of combining multiple stages of production. It is also important that UIT technology meets European standards in terms of environmental friendliness, resource consumption and energy costs.

"Ukrainian transport infrastructure is open to investment and innovation. Infrastructural objects are created for long years. Therefore, the technologies introduced must be up-to-date. In particular, the development of the navy and river fleet, domestic shipbuilding should take into account the world's best practices and achievements. The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine promotes cooperation between educational and research institutions and enterprises of the infrastructure industry. Such synergy gives the best result for the economy of the Ukrainian state," said the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladyslav Kryklii.

The Head of PJSC Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company Oleksiy Khomiakov reported that it is planned to hold joint with Igor Sikorsky KPI industrial testing of new technologies and equipment, consulting assistance in conducting research and practice, exchange of experience and training of engineering personnel. Shipping may also act as an employer for graduates.
