  • Ukraine and the Netherlands are considering opportunities for implementation of viable projects in bioenergy

Participants of a specialized workshop organized by the Dutch consortium"Partners in Business Biobased Energy Ukraine" (PIB), the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ukraine, State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving, the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine and the Association "Ukrainian Agribusiness Club".

According to the Head of the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving Serhii Savchuk, the  legislative incentives such as stimulating the tariff for heat "not from gas", green tariff  for electricity from biomass and biogas at the level of 12.4 eurocents / kWh encapsulate opportunities for bioenergy projects.

"From the point of view of providing the necessary raw materials, Ukraine, as a modern agricultural country, has a huge resource potential. Using only agrarian waste, it is potentially possible to replace over 9 billion cubic meters of  gas", Serhii Savchuk stressed.

During the workshop, all attendees got acquainted with the  best practices of  Ukraine and the Netherlands in bioenergy, and discussed ways to develop viable projects in this area, in particular, regarding the production of bioethanol.

In turn, experts from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and Ukrgasbank predict that biomass and biogas energy projects will become one of the priority areas for financing in the coming years.

"I am convinced that the participation of Dutch companies, investments and technologies in the domestic market will allow to realize profitable projects for replacing the gas  for the benefit of the country", the Head of SAEE summed up.
