  • Ukraine expresses commitment to secure gas supplies to European markets

    Yesterday there took place a meeting between the Minister of Energy and the Environmental Protection of Ukraine Oleksiy Orzhel and the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Oleksandr Novak in Vienna in the framework of the trilateral negotiations on the preparation for signing an agreement on gas transit via the Ukrainian gas transmission system.

    The parties discussed the possibility of signing the contract in accordance with European rules and agreed to intensify the work.

    In the negotiation process, the Government acts in the sole interest of the Ukrainian people and each Ukrainian citizen in particular.

    The European side and the Government have a mutual position and stand for abiding by European rules and the need for a long-term contract.

    Negotiations will prolong in different formats.

    "We, as a reliable partner, must ensure the sustainable and uninterrupted natural gas deliveries to European markets," said Energy and Environmental Protection Minister Oleksiy Orzhel.

    He stressed that signing a long-term contract for gas transit harmonizing with European laws and being economically viable is an issue of energy security not only for Ukraine but also for Europe. The Minister added that there took place a bilateral meeting in the framework of the processes of tripartite negotiations between Ukraine, the Russian Federation and the EU.
