The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine presents statistical indicators of creative industries for 2020.

In general, in 2020, the creative industries generated 4.2% of the added value of the Ukrainian economy. This is UAH 132.4 billion. This figure exceeds the indicators of 2019 - 3.9%.

"The results of the growth of the creative business are already impressive: by 0.3% higher contribution to GDP compared to the previous year. And that took place during the coronavirus-inflicted crisis when the sphere was suffering considerable losses. Therefore, we will further stimulate its development. And research will not stop there: after all, market analytics and statistics are extremely important. All those help to understand the true picture as well as to find points for development in the future," said Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko.

More and more people are choosing to work in the creative industries. In 2020, this percentage increased to 4, which is 360.3 thousand Ukrainians. In 2019, this figure was 3.8%.

In 2020, some activities significantly improved their performance compared to the previous year, especially IT and design, while others suffered from the coronavirus-inflicted crisis.

The volume of sold products of business in the field of creative industries amounted to UAH 333.9 billion – which is 3% of the total volume of sold products in Ukraine.

The positive dynamics of Ukrainian creative industries is observed against the background of falling GDP in 2020, as well as the slowdown in global growth due to the pandemic (according to UNESCO). This indicates a significant share of the IT sector in the structure of the creative industries, which proved to be less vulnerable to the effects of the pandemic. This may also indicate a significant share of the shadow economy, which is not reflected in the statistics.
