The issues related to establishing close cooperation between Ukraine and Norway in the field of energy efficiency and clean energy were discussed during a meeting between Serhii Savchuk, Head of the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving (SAEE) and Fredrik Arthur, Chargé d'affaires a.i Embassy of Norway in Ukraine.
Norway is interested in exchange of experience and joint investment projects in renewable energy. Norway has already exceeded its National Renewable Energy Action Plan by 2020. In 2016, the share of clean energy in final energy consumption in Norway reached almost 70%. At the same time, 99% of all electricity in the country is produced by hydroelectric power plants.
"Given the ample opportunities for cooperation with Norway, we are considering the possibility of concluding a Memorandum of Understanding on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy with Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation," Head of the SAEE.
Another step towards establishing a close partnership in specific sectors will be the Ukrainian-Norwegian business forum, scheduled for January 2019.
In general, the parties identified involvement of Norwegian investments in green energy projects, development of joint mechanisms for stimulating the development of "green" energy and ESCO-mechanism, applying best practices of Norway's experience and technology to develop liquid biofuels as promising ones.
