Volodymyr Groysman proposes to set up an interdepartmental group to verify the formula of gas price formation by Naftogaz
Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman initiates the establishment of an interdepartmental working group, which will include representatives of the Accounting Chamber, fiscal services and other authorities, as well as MPs, in order to verify the process of gas pricing by NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine. The Head of Government announced at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers. The PM stressed that systematic manipulation with the price of gas for the population, as well as the situation when the gas price for the industry is lower than the price for the population, require involvement and further clarification.
"Today, we adopt a decision, which will make them (the leadership of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine) get their heads out of the clouds. They have pushed up prices to 8800 (UAH per thousand cubic meters of gas) in some regions. They again will rub our nose into the fact that it’s the work of either the Government or someone else? No, Naftogaz is responsible for that! And I emphasize that we have zero tolerance for that. We have reiterated that a number of times", urged Volodymyr Groysman. "What does market price envisages presently? The gas should cost about UAH 8,000 in June (per one thousand cubic meters), in July - UAH 7,700, but not UAH 8,800. This is the corridor that aligns with the market price."
According to the Head of Government, among today’s decisions approved by the Cabinet of Ministers will be the obligation for the NJSC to lower prices.
"And the second decision is to appeal to the Accounting Chamber, AMCU, SFS, State Audit Service with the proposal to establish a joint group to verify the formation of the price of gas within Naftogaz. If NJSC does not open documents revealing the cost they buy gas, how they transport, how they calculate and sell, I will assume that they conceal the manipulation and falsification of price formation. I emphasize that! Everything must be open and clear. Each contract must be open and written in a clear language", added Volodymyr Groysman.
The PM also demanded that the leadership of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine in the near future would present a forecast for further reduction of gas prices - harmonized with global market trends.
