On 19 February, the Ukrainian PJSC Export Credit Agency (ECA) and the Japanese state export credit agency Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Development of Cooperation. The document is aimed at further developing the cooperation between PJSC Export Credit Agency and NEXI, which began in November 2023, and includes the exchange of information and cooperation in the field of reinsurance to support trade and investment of Japanese companies in Ukraine. It is expected to facilitate trade and business between companies in both countries through the exchange of information and know-how.

“Thanks to Japan’s support, last year we started building the insurance infrastructure necessary to attract private investors to rebuild Ukraine. This work continues – today, 14 foreign export credit agencies already have the tools to insure companies from their countries that want to work in Ukraine. Another five are working on their implementation. I am pleased that NEXI has joined the investment insurance business for Japanese companies. This is an important step to support Ukrainian exporters and attract foreign investors. We must demonstrate to the world that war is not an embargo on investment. Thanks to reconstruction projects and government support, Japanese business will be able not only to gain a foothold in Ukraine but also to enter the huge European market, creating mutually beneficial cooperation for both our countries,” said Yuliia Svyrydenko, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine.

    Background

PJSC Export Credit Agency was founded in 2018. The sole founder and shareholder of ECA is the state represented by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. The corporate rights owned by the state in the authorised capital of ECA are managed by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine through its authorised management body – the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine.
