Ukraine has transferred to open markets for electricity and gas, when the price of a product, particularly for the population, is formed in the market. This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on January 25 on the air of the program "Svoboda Slova" (Freedom of Speech – ed.).
According to the PM, the Government has begun to take critical steps to ensure that these electricity and gas markets start working properly and conveniently for people.
"First, the maximum price on the gas market was set from February 1 until the end of the heating season not higher than UAH 6.99 per cubic meter. Secondly, tariffs for heating and hot water will not change until the end of the heating season. Thirdly, after consultations with the Government and people's deputies, the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission decided to limit the gas distribution tariff to UAH 1.79 per cubic meter," said Denys Shmyhal.
At the same time, according to the Prime Minister, the Government together with the line committee of the Verkhovna Rada will initiate the adoption of a bill on the possibility of transferring gas distribution networks to local governments. "This is a crucial element that will ensure the fairness of the distribution price," he added.
In addition, the Head of Government stressed that fines and penalties for late payment of gas or heating for January will not be charged.
The Prime Minister also noted that the Government expects the results of the investigation of the Antimonopoly Committee and the establishment of fair and transparent rules in the gas market.
"The Cabinet of Ministers will make a decision on compensation to households with electric heating installed. And the last step: the annual product will be the main among gas distribution companies. That is, the price of gas will be set once a year, as is done in most European countries," urged the Prime Minister.
