Comments of Oleksandr Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine, Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, on his visit to Kharkiv region: "We worked in Kharkiv yesterday. Together with UNDP Ukraine, the embassies of Denmark, Estonia, Sweden, France and Poland, we could see how to prepare the city for the next heating season.
The needs of the city and the region were summarized by the local, regional authorities and the Government and passed on to the partners.
The existing examples of developing a more sustainable and resilient municipal infrastructure are inspiring: renovated boiler houses equipped with modern German technology, cogeneration units connected to them and indispensable in blackouts. There are almost 20 of them in the city, provided as part of international technical assistance. The network of cogeneration units allows towns to have uninterrupted heat supply in the event of emergency or scheduled power outages.
Pivnichna Saltivka today and two years ago are two different towns. From complete devastation and destruction to cautious recovery under the eVidnovlennia program, the Armed Aggression Response Fund.
In fact, every third application for housing reconstruction is from Kharkiv region. More than UAH 400 million has already been transferred for urgent repairs.
At the same time, there are many young people and families with children staying on the streets. We are already doing everything possible for the 1.3 million Kharkiv residents who do not want to leave their city despite the enemy's goals.
One of the symbols of this peaceful resistance is the first underground school built in 5 months. The school has 21 classrooms, a dining room and a transformer room. The school is designed for 450 students in one shift. In the near future, children will be able to attend classes here.
I would like to thank the representatives of diplomatic missions, governmental and non-governmental organizations for their courage to be here and now with our people, with Kharkiv citizens. The region needs not only financial and technical support, but also air defense systems and military assistance.
I would also like to thank the local authorities - City Head Ihor Terekhov and Head of the Regional Military Administration Oleh Syniehubov - for their full personal involvement and cooperation in solving the problems in Kharkiv region."
