  • Defense ministers of Ukraine and Romania discussed directions of cooperation in the context of the Black Sea region security

    February 14, in the framework of the Munich Security Conference, Defense Minister Andriy Zagorodnyuk held a meeting with Romanian Minister of National Defense Nicolae-Ionel Cuica.

    The parties focused on the Black Sea region security. Andriy Zagorodnyuk stressed the importance of cooperation at the level of the naval forces and the strengthening of joint efforts with partners in the Eastern European region in order to ensure stability in the Black Sea.

    Among the promising areas for cooperation discussed by the Ministers during the meeting, were the future signing of the Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of Romania on military-technical cooperation, as well as the exchange of information on situational awareness in air and maritime domains.

    The parties also expressed concern about the destabilization activities of the Russian Federation in the Black and Azov Seas, as well as further militarization of the illegally occupied Crimean peninsula.

    Among other important aspects, the Ministers stressed the need for continued bilateral cooperation, participation in joint multinational exercises and cooperation in the framework of multinational engineer battalion “TYSA”.
