The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine introduces a procedure for electronic trading in licenses for the use of subsoil, primarily for gas production, as well as formalizes a decision to launch the Energy Efficiency Fund. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman announced during a Government session.
He stressed that asserting independence, especially in energy, is our overarching objective. The Prime Minister reminded that Ukraine, which has had significant natural reserves, used to buy gas from Russia. Former authorities knelt down, while Ukrainian subsoil was closed, abandoned and involved in corruption activities.
"Our goal is to open geodata, to provide opprotunities for businesses to enter the market through transparent auctions and to extract gas, so that we could abandon import. When we reject, we will lower prices and won’t depend on import prices", said the Head of Government. "We take a decision on the opening of data, on the introduction of auctions. We have already prepared 44 mining sites with a reserve of 150 billion cubic meters of gas, those worth investment, technologies, where Ukrainian citizens will work, and we will be able to provide independence from any state."
Meanwhile, Volodymyr Groysman emphasized, the Government endorses a decision to trigger the work of the Energy Efficiency Fund as a key tool to pursue the policy of effective resource consumption, and thereby cost-saving.
"The decision will also affect on our progress in energy sector", stressed Volodymyr Groysman.
Apart from that, the PM drew particular attention to the implementation of the program for the improvement of state-owned coal mines, which should also be part of the state policy of energy independence.
"With the adoption of all announced decisions, we are approaching energy independence and moderate energy prices inside the country," added the Prime Minister. "It is a package of paramount decisions that destroy corruption."
According to the State Service of Geology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, the initial cost of licenses for the aforesaid 44 plots makes up about UAH 3 billion, while the total area of land is over 13 thousand square kilometers. The Prime Minister of Ukraine highlighted it is the topmost priority to carry out all preparatory work to start the auctions as fast as possible.
