German Galushchenko, Minister of Energy of Ukraine, met with Bridget Brink, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Ukraine. The discussion focused on the needs of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which has been damaged by recent russian attacks.
The Head of the Ministry of Energy briefed the Ambassador on the current situation in the energy sector and the consequences of the russian attacks.
“We have managed to stabilise the situation, but the enemy continues to attack, especially substations,” said German Galushchenko.
According to the Minister, the collection of information from companies on the needs to overcome the consequences of the russian attacks is currently being finalised. Thermal and hydroelectric power plants have suffered the most. At the moment there is a need for high-voltage equipment, autotransformers and repair equipment.
The Ambassador, in turn, noted that the United States was ready to help restore the energy sector and prepare for the next heating season.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed cooperation in strengthening the physical protection of energy facilities.
They also discussed measures to decentralise power generation before the start of the next heating season, in particular the need to install additional distributed generation capacity.
