In April, all military pensioners pursuant to the decision of the Government will receive payments of the recalculated pensions for the period January-March 2018, and from May, the Government will commence a systemic payment of already increased pensions. This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman in the course of a meeting with the Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine Andrii Reva. The meeting was held in order to assess the current situation in the system of pension payments for servicemen.
"I promised military retirees that we will increase pensions and we do it. The essential thing is that we will make recalculations over January, February and March. It is a burning issue, thus I would like to ensure decent payments for each military retiree, the Prime Minister underscored, it is important that all payments will be fully paid by May, thus starting from May we have to ensure systemic increase of payments. People are waiting".
In turn, the Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine stressed pensions will grow by UAH 1,500 on average in accordance with the Government decree and he added that everything is going as scheduled, thereby there is no doubt that the tasks will be fulfilled.
The decision to raise superannuation for military retirees is the next step in implementing the pension reform in Ukraine. At the end of 2017, the Government shaped a draft law on this issue and submitted it to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine for further consideration, because in accordance with the law any military issues should be agreed upon with this state body. However, the discussion of the bill takes up time. That is why, in February, the Government approved a decision that gave a green light to the process of raising military pensions. The decision is temporary and will take effect before the adoption of the law, which will consolidate not only the systemic increase of pensions for the military, but also outline the system of pensions for the military who are currently performing military service.
From the second half of March, the Pension Fund of Ukraine began payments of the recalculated pensions to servicemen. Pensions will be increased on a step-by-step basis. In the first stage, starting from January 1, 2018, pensions for military serviceman will grow by UAH 1.500 on average, from January 1, 2019 - by another UAH 750 on average, and from January 1, 2020 - by another UAH 750. Thus, for two years, military pensions will be increased twofold. At present, the average military pension makes up UAH 2898.41.
