On 19 March, the Government team headed by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal met in Luxembourg with Nadia Calviño, President of the European Investment Bank.
Among other participants were Minister of Finance Sergii Marchenko, Minister of Justice Denys Maliuska, and Deputy Minister of Economy / Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka.
The parties discussed a number of issues related to support for our country. During the meeting, a memorandum was signed between the EIB and Ukrhydroenergo, emphasising the intention to assist in the restoration of Ukraine's hydroelectric power plants. According to the Prime Minister, the EIB is considering allocating approximately EUR 100 million to finance Ukraine's hydropower sector.
"Ukraine's hydropower industry has lost about 2.5 thousand MW of capacity due to the actions of Russian terrorists. Thanks to the efforts of the Government and partners, more than 1.5 thousand MW have already been restored. The restoration is ongoing and will accelerate," said Denys Shmyhal.
The Head of the Ukrainian Government and Nadia Calviño also discussed the implementation of other investment projects of great importance for the Ukrainian economy and Ukrainian communities.
"We are grateful to the EIB for its steadfast support and significant contribution to Ukraine's energy security," said Denys Shmyhal.
