Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal laid flowers to Chornobyl Monument on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal together with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy paid tribute to the victims of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident. He attended the flower laying ceremony at the Chernobyl Monument today, April 26.
The Prime Minister expressed deep gratitude to everyone who at the cost of their lives and health had saved millions of people, not only in Ukraine but also outside its borders.
“34 years have passed since the Chernobyl disaster. It was on this day that firefighters and rescuers took the brunt of eliminating the first effects. Saved millions of lives. Today we are revering their memory. Heroism has no time limitation. I thank all the rescuers and bow low to commemorate those who gave their lives for our safety. We remember… ”, said Denys Shmyhal.
The Head of Government noted that on this day we should all say "thank you" to these Heroes because everyone understands the dire consequences of the Chornobyl tragedy.
"It is our grief and awareness that this should never happen again," the Prime Minister said.
All the present honored the rescuers with a moment of silence.
