SAEE in synergy with experts is drafting the bill on the establishment of a transparent solid biofuel market in Ukraine
Head of State
Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving
of Ukraine (SAEE) Serhii Savchuk together with Diana
Korsakaite, Chief of Party of
the USAID Project and Georgii Geletukha, Head of
the board of Bioenergy Association
of Ukraine, tackled the
development of the solid biofuel
market in Ukraine.
"Over the
past three years, we have
almost 2 GW of new installed capacity
generating heat "not from gas".
The tremendous resource potential of Ukraine offers
ample opportunities for increasing manifold these capacities. An indispensable condition is the creation
of a solid biofuel market, thus it will
ensure a stable supply and transparent
pricing of raw materials for
solid fuel boilers, as well
as stimulate an increase in
heat production "not from gas",
the Head of SAEE stressed at the beginning
of the meeting.
The said argument
was backed by the Head
of the board
of Bioenergy Association. For example, in Lithuania,
the share of heat energy
from biomass in the heating
system has risen to 65 percent
in a few years. The secret
of success lies in the
new model of competitive heat market, as
well as the
creation of the BALTPOOL biomass Exchange.
BALTPOOL is the operator of the
Lithuanian Energy Exchange entitled to organise
trade of solid biofuel products.
