The Annual
National Program of Ukraine-NATO Cooperation 2018 should be brought closer to
programs the Alliance launches with countries in the framework of the
Membership Action Plan. At present, the ANP project is being developed by the
Government Office for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and is mainly aimed at speeding up preparation of
the state for NATO membership. This was stated by Vice Prime Minister for
European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Ivanna
Klympush-Tsintsadze during a meeting of the Committee
on Foreign Affairs of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. "Our challenge is to reach a
qualitative rather than quantitative assessment of the implementation of the
ANP that means the goals set out in the document must be consistent with the
quality and quantity of activities carried out by relevant ministries. Such an
approach will allow us to harmonize our standards with NATO standards and get
the Membership Action Plan in the Alliance," said the Vice Prime Minister.
One of the tools
in a bid to activate this process could be Ukraine's participation in the
Enhanced Opportunity Program, assures the Vice Prime Minister. "We are
paving the way towards NATO not as suppliants, but as equal partners. We have what to offer the Alliance. Ukraine
is involved in almost all NATO programs, our Army is among the most capable in
Europe, Ukrainian troops demonstrate their presence in Afghanistan and in
Kosovo under the NATO auspices. These
are rather serious arguments, in my opinion", noted Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze.
