  • Volodymyr Groysman considers approval of pension reform not just political but human responsibility

The adoption of the Government's pension reform, which provides for raising pensions for 9 million pensioners, preserving retirement age, eliminating taxes for working pensioners, restoring social justice for working people, and overcoming the deficit of the Pension Fund, implies not just political but human responsibility. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman in an interview with Liga.net.

“This reform is inevitable and vital. The pension system of the country is in fact greatly jeopardized. Hence, it's not just political, it's human responsibility of the President, the Prime Minister, the Government, MPs, factions, unaffiliated parliamentaries, and parliamentary groups. We must make this decision. And I, following its approval, express my commitment to assume full responsibility for the success of the reform”, said Volodymyr Groysman.

He stressed that the adoption of the reform would afford the Government to remove political speculation on pensioners and pension accruals. "Do you know that there was a discussion regarding the pension coefficient: either 1 or 1.35? How was that before? The state has deliberately created a system of lowering pension payments so that, then, before the elections, to use it as a tool: they would raise pensions thereby buying votes”, explained the Prime Minister. “Actually, pensions were in hands of politicians. I want to take away pensions from the hands of politicians and hand it over to pensioners... There will be the coefficient 1 and it will be invariable. At that, the assessment basis won’t be UAH 1197 UAH, but UAH 3764. It is fair. And then I propose that we carry out annual automatic update of pensions, indexation. This is the task of the reform. And I really want to do it. Together with the President, together with the Parliament, together with the coalition, with the political partners. "

The Head of Government emphasized that the President of Ukraine supports the initiatives of the Cabinet of Ministers, and there isn’t any disagreement. "12.5 million pensioners are expecting for improved pension, while 9 million of them will receive it from October 1”, told Volodymyr Groysman. “What does the reform envisage? Restoring justice - we will carry out modernization of pensions. The second position is no increase in retirement age. The third is to completely eliminate the deficit of the Pension Fund in 7-10 years".
