Even if low
temperatures last we have sufficient gas reserves in underground storages until
the end of the heating season. This was stressed by Vice Prime Minister of
Ukraine Volodymyr Kistion on air at Espreso.tv.
He noted
that since the beginning of the autumn-winter heating season there had been
used 22% of gas reserves from underground storage facilities.
"There
is no Armageddon. Ukraine has had and still possesses sufficient amount of gas.
Currently in underground storage facilities we have about 11.5 billion cubic
meters of gas. At the beginning of the heating season Ukraine pumped 14.5
billion. As of January 8, we have used about 22% of the reserves pumped into our
underground storage facilities," said Volodymyr Kistion.
The Vice
Prime Minister told that the situation with gas supplies was monitored daily,
and there existed a tendency to reduce gas consumption.
"Every
day we analyze the situation with gas supply, with gas use, we have the perfect
dynamics of reduction in gas consumption demonstrated directly by population,
budget institutions and industry," said Volodymyr Kistion,
adding that economy has been achieved through introducing energy-saving
technologies, energy efficiency measures.
"Even
if temperatures remain at the level of about below 10 degrees Celsius till the
end of the heating period, according to the calculations we will have
sufficient amount to satisfy the needs of gas in Ukraine – for the population, budget
institutions and industry alike", emphasized the Vice Prime Minister.
