The Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine was adopted 29 years ago. During this time, a new generation of Ukrainians has been born. More than a third of Ukraine's population was born in an independent state. But the Russian aggression in Crimea and Donbas reminded all Ukrainians that independence is definitely not a ‘fait accompli’.
We must remember that we live in a country where independence was achieved. Dozens of generations. Thousands of Ukrainians died in battles for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. For our opportunity to decide independently - how to live on our native land. And today I thank everyone who has been fighting and continues to fight for an independent European state of Ukraine.
I am convinced that Ukraine has long been ready for the European future. But no one will build European roads or European cities for us, no one will create a European state for us here. We have to do it ourselves.
It is our duty to take care of our country. Before future and past generations.
We must remember that we are building our state for our children first and foremost. What education will they receive? What medical services will they get? How will they realize their potential in adult life? The answer is the same. Their happy life in Ukraine tomorrow means our joint actions today. Our goal is to create a strong and effective state, the care for which is felt by all citizens.
I believe that our independent Ukraine will be just like that.
Congratulations to everyone on Independence Day! May God protect all of us and our beautiful country!
Glory to Ukraine!
