Ukraine is
ready to cancel visa regime to Romania, but simultaneously with the
ratification of the Ukraine - EU agreement on visa regime facilitation,
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk told journalists in Bucharest, accompanying
President Viktor Yushchenko during his official visit
to Romania.
Foreign
Minister Yatsenyuk noted Ukraine can take the move
toward Romania and Bulgaria and technically the issue of treating these
countries with the same privileges as other EU members enjoy now is now being
settled.
However
Ukraine counts on the principle of reciprocity, Yatsenyuk
said, expressing his hope that all procedures will be completed by 2007 close
and since January 1, 2008 the decision will take effect.
Ukraine
introduced visa-free regime for the EU in 2005 as a goodwill act. This
unilateral initiative didn't demand the respond, but Ukraine counted on
adequate reaction by the EU.
Ukraine has
also introduced visa-free regimes to Switzerland, the USA, Japan,
Liechtenstein, Canada, Andorra, Vatican, Iceland, Monaco, Norway and San
Marino. Now the number of countries, which enjoy visa-free travels to Ukraine
amounts to 36.
