We hardly
negotiated on military-political issues, Head of a Russian delegation Grigoriy Karasin stated, after
the Ukrainian-Russian negotiations on the Russian Naval Fleet's basement in
Ukraine.
At a joint
press conference with Deputy Foreign Minister Volodymyr
Ohryzko, Grigoriy Karasin noted that the parties haven't agreed on several
issues, albeit, keep on searching for possible
solutions. According to Mr Karasin, the Russian party
works toward provision of stability in the Pontic
region, while its presence on the Ukrainian territory. It's too early,
unfortunately, to speak about it, Mr Karasin noted.
The Head of
the Russian delegation informed that working groups have already been
commissioned to step up adjusting of a conflict with lighthouses, and stated
his hope that 2007's meetings will involve discussion of expert's particular
suggestions. Meanwhile, the Russian party cautioned against an illusion that
all existing problems will be solved in the near future.
According
to Grigoriy Karasin, the
participants in the negotiations have successfully negotiated on ecological
safety and environmental protection on the Russian Fleet's basement venues.
In turn, Volodymyr Ohryzko noted that
certain problems still remain, however, he can notice
a trace of progress.
Volodymyr
Ohryzko also informed that the Russian Naval Fleet
will remain on the territory of Ukraine until 2017, as this is predetermined by
the agreement. The prolongation of the agreement was not put into a question. The
Constitution of Ukraine doesn't envisage foreign military basements on the
territory of Ukraine, the Ukrainian diplomat stressed.
The
sub-commission's next sitting is slated for January 2006 in Moscow, Russia.
