History

The Constitutional Court of Ukraine initiated its activity on October 18, 1996. It was connected with the “Constitution of Ukraine” adoption by the Verkhovna Rada in 1996. The first decision was adopted on May 13, 1997. The Constitutional Court of Ukraine is the only body of constitutional jurisdiction in Ukraine. “Visnyk of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine” is a printed body.

Leadership

The Head of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine is elected at the meeting of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine among judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine for one three-year term only. He governs the Constitutional Court of Ukraine and organizes its activity. The Head of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine has two deputies. Deputies of the Head of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine perform some of the authorities on the instructions of the Head of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. Deputies of the Head of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine are elected at the suggestion of the Head of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine for one three-year term only by secret vote.

Structure

The structure of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine comprises: Head of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine; Deputies of the Head and Deputies of the Head of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Service; Judges and science consultants and assistants of judges service of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine; Secretariat of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine; Administration of legal examination; Press service of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine; Department of information system and communication; Department of external relations.

Tasks

The main task of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine is to guarantee supremacy of the Constitution of Ukraine as a Fundamental Law of the state on the territory of Ukraine.

The Constitution of Ukraine regulates the activity of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.
