Ukraine submits official declaration to host Winter Olympics 2022 in Lviv

Ukraine has submitted an official declaration to the International Olympic Committee on filing of application on hosting Winter Olympic Games 2022 in Lviv. This was announced by Vice Prime Minister Alexander Vilkul at the XXVIII General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.

“Today we are the creators of a new phase in the history of our country. Ukraine submitted to the International Olympic Committee an official declaration on filing of application on holding the Winter Olympics 2022 in Lviv. This will be not only the push to promote sports and tourism in Ukraine, but also an important element in economic development, attracting investment, creating jobs, opening Ukraine to the world,” Olexandr Vilkul said at the XXVIII General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.

"In 5 hours away from the city of Lviv nearly 50 million people from 7 countries live. We create opportunities for winter sports in that part of Europe, where tourists-amateur and professional athletes can get comfortable," Olexandr Vilkul said.

He added that the application for the hosting of Olympics 2022 is more than a new sports facilities, roads and hotels, "Lviv-2022 left "universal heritage" in the form of new skills, unique experience for athletes, coaches, journalists, sports managers and volunteers".

In preparation, there will be two clusters; "ice" will be located in Lviv, and "snow" in Tisovec, Panasivka and Borzhava.

At all objects that will be constructed to the Winter Olympics, a comfortable environment for all athletes and fans to be created, including for people with disabilities. In the process of preparation of the Ukraine’s application close cooperation with the national federations of winter sports is continued.
