Mykola Azarov demands civilized and humane treatment of homeless animals

Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov has commissioned to strengthen control and urgently react to cases of abusive treatment of animals. The head of Government is demanding to take necessary prophylactic measures while the guilty in abusive treatment of animals are to be brought to responsibility.

“I ask the concerned departments within their competence to take under personal control issues of prevention to killing stray animals, ensuring their proper veterinary treatment, raising the level of public awareness concerning humane treatment of animals, revealing facts of animal abuse and immediate reaction to it,” the commission of the Premier reads.

The problem of cruelty to homeless animals and their intentional killing is risen by mass media, and also in addresses of Ukrainian animal protection organizations and citizens.

To assume control in order to find civilized solving to the problem of homeless animals in the limits of the competency Mykola Azarov gave a commission to the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Oleh Proskuryakov, Minister of Education and Science Dmytro Tabachnyk, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Prysyazhniuk, Ministry of Regional Development, Building and Housing and Communal Service Hennadiy Temnyk, Minister of Internal Affairs Vitaliy Zakharchenko, head of the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary services Volodymyr Gorzheyev, the head of the Council of Ministers of ARC Anatoliy Mohylyov, heads of regional state administrations, Kyiv and Sevastopol municipal state administrations.

The results of the fulfilled work must be reported monthly to the Cabinet of Ministers.
